Went to the Anaheim drift competition this weekend at the Angel’s Stadium. I was there shooting video for Kevin Madson of Madson motorsports an teal AllStars. Wayne Brady was there and he was supposed to have a spin in Kevin’s modified Mustang but it ended up not working out. I’ll get video up as soon as it’s ready but here are some pics.
I am not usually a fan of the desert but Joshua Tree durring the early part of the year was pretty cool. It wasn’t hot (that is usually my complaint with the desert), it was actually downright cold, but it still had the serenity that you would expect from a desolate location. I got to do some hiking and bouldering while I was there which is always fun. I don’t have all the pics finished but here is some of them

I have never had the opportunity until this past weekend to go snowboarding outside of Southern California. To me that meant no challenge of a truly enormous ski area. As you can see below I had been to mammoth before but the chance to explore the mountain was so much more than I could have hoped for. There is so much to see and do on a hill this size that I didn’t even know where to start when I got there. Luckily I had some guides to help me along the way. I traversed most of the mountain throughout my day but I had to skip most of the runs in-between in order to get to see most of what this mountain will have to offer me in the future. Anyone in southern california who hasn’t had the chance to go up to a big mountain to ski yet really needs to make a point out of it. The experience is something I know I will remember for years to come.
The Sierra Nevadas is one of California’s most beautiful area’s in my opinion. Being from Southern California I don’t often get to see green landscape, tall trees and snow. I got to go up there this past weekend and experience one of my favorite seasons in a beautiful place; Mammoth Lakes. I have been to the lakes that make up this beautiful environment, the hot springs that come from the volcanic nature of this region, and some national monuments such as devils post pile a geological phenomenon that only exists in Mammoth and New Zealand. I think that Mammoth and I are going to get to know each other better over the next few years as there is still much to explore but for now you can take a look at some of the photos I took while up there and take it in for yourself
I have decided that if and when the US economy completely fails, I will be moving to Vancouver. That place is freaking awesome. I spent a few days there after camp and it is probably one of my favorite big city’s ever. The mountains, the buildings, the people, they are all cool. The crime rate (the scary crimes at least like murder) are super low (although car theft is super high, good trade off I guess) and that means you never feel unsafe walking around. Plus the lack of gangs and violent crimes in general in Canada really put your mind at ease (if you are a criminal please don’t move to Canada). Anyway, time for some photos.
So I haven’t posted in a while but I thought it was about time. I have been up in BC for a little while now working at a camp near princeton called Rockridge Canyon. It is a YoungLife Camp near princeton and I have been mixing the music at night. It has been super fun. The best part I think is how there is always a random thunderstorm. Being from southern California I don’t really get to see it rain ever but it has rained almost everyday since getting into Vancouver a few weeks ago. I have been getting photos and as soon as I get home I will be able to post them.
Last night we drove over to a town called Pentikton. It is in the Okanaga valley and it has the worst theater I have ever been in. It was super entertaining actually. They theater had a floor that went down and then back up toward the screen, the screen itself wasn’t centered in the room, and it didn’t even have surround sound. That’s right, I watched The Dark Night Rises in stereo and I am pretty sure the speakers were blown but it’s hard to tell with how crappy the theater was. It could just be a bad job of going back to stereo. On the way back we got caught in a thunderstorm driving on this school bus hoping to not get struck because I was most definitely touching the metal on the bus directly. One thing I do appreciate is that when it rains up here nobody freaks out. It’s kinda nice.
I haven’t posted anything in a while and that’s the problem. Work right now is basically dead. I assume that it is because it’s the beginning of the year and people are getting budgets into order and seeing what they can do this upcoming year. I have been managing to stay afloat by taking sideline small gigs. It isn’t a fun way to work but it is necessary sometimes.
Some good news is that a video I have been working on was approved so as soon as it goes up on their site you will get to see it. I have also been approved to finish the Explore Project video. The goal is to have it finished in two weeks. I have also started doing some live sound mixing again which is always fun for me. And finally some potential good news (although it isn’t yet). If the details work out my company (ThunderFish), and Five Sharp will be working together. This is potential for us to get video work and them to get the web work that fuze group did but stopped doing when we decided to focus on video and photo. I know that this news may be preemptive but it is still the possibility that brings me hope (and me being able to back link to another site ;-D).
So I have been doing work for free for this awesome charity called Angel Aviation. They are a part of an umbrella charity called Angel Flight and basically their mission is to fly people for free who are very sick, mostly with cancer, from rural area’s to urban areas for treatment. This is because commercial flight is dangerous to a person with a compromised immune system. Driving is also a major difficulty for a person who has just gone through chemo so this is a very important service that they provide.
Anyways, I thought I would mention it here because I really do feel the work they are doing is very important.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. The new year is now less than a week away and it of course has made me think a little of the past year (and maybe a little bit past that too). However it has also made me think of the future year and what it hold for me. We are starting a new production company and although we don’t know how it will end up we have high hopes. I am not really sure where we will go but using our past connections and having a new drive is kind of getting me excited about what the year will hold. We made a new video which I have posted to the companies new youtube page and here on my page. It is about the current state of our generation’s reality. With the occupy movement, worldwide economic decline, and increasing environmental challenges, it seems there is an overwhelming lack of hope for the future. We realize we have been sold a dream that can never be delivered. However, we believe in the human spirit and our ability to create beauty and hope for the future. I hope you enjoy and I hope that everyone has a great year. A little side not too, I hope the world doesn’t end like everyone is saying but we got 12 months left so lets go out with a bang if it does. Carpe Diem
